How Long Does it Take to Get a Job?
Usually when airlines are interviewing they are able to offer applicants a position in a relatively short period of time, with provision for you to give 2 weeks’ notice at your present job. Hiring procedures differ throughout the industry - some airlines only hire on certain days of each month, and some airlines are backlogged with applicants and it may take several months to schedule you for an interview. Your flexibility in choice of airlines will also expedite the process - if you have your heart set on working for a certain airline and they don’t happen to be hiring right now, you may have to wait for awhile until they resume hiring. But if you are flexible, you will have more options open to you.
Can I Go to College While I’m Working As A Flight Attendant?
Due to the irratic schedule given to a new flight attendant, it is very difficult to attend school or any regularly scheduled activity, at least in the beginning, when you will probably be on-call. Initially, flight attendants are on “reserve”, or on-call, and even though you have scheduled days off each month, you may not know where you will be all the days in between! But that is the adventure of being a flight attendant.
Everything goes by seniority in the airlines. After you have been there for awhile, you will have the higher seniority required to bid for a regular schedule and it will be somewhat easier to take classes or do other things requiring set times. But don’t count on doing that for quite some time - it may take months or even years before you are able to do that. It is best to finish whatever schooling you have in mind before you begin a flight attendant career.
What is your location? Do you have anything in my area?
Our classes are held in Orlando, Florida, at the Wingate Inn near the Orlando International Airport. We do not provide our program in other cities, as we want to closely simulate airline school to our students and in airline school student have to go to the airline’s home base to attend training. Many of our students have never been away from home for any period of time so it is our aim to have them experience this before going away to airline school for several weeks. We feel that classes are much more effective than online courses, because we can work with you in person and are also able to make a referral for you, to airlines.
